The Simulated Newsroom is SPARC's flagship in-person workshop.
In a fast-paced, hands-on session, participants step into a newsroom to learn how health stories are made — and how to make their own.
Working from the concept of newsworthiness, clinicians and health professionals learn to evaluate media content, shape a message, pitch to media, and write persuasive opinion pieces that reach the public.
The Simulated Newsroom is a validated educational innovation, first published in AEM Education and Training (Bigham et al., 2022). It has been delivered more than 100 times at universities across Canada, including the University of Toronto, McMaster University, the University of Calgary, and the University of Alberta.
